MetricRaven vs Umami: Umami alternative
Umami facts last checked · sources
Umami started as a small, open-source alternative to Google Analytics and has grown into a broad web and product analytics tool. Umami v3 adds funnels, retention, journeys, attribution, session replay, heatmaps, error tracking and an official MCP server, and you can still self-host all of it for free.
MetricRaven covers less ground on purpose. It is built to answer one question well: which channels, pages and campaigns bring paying customers? Both tools now connect to payment providers, so the differences are in how revenue is attributed, which providers are supported, and what else you get around it.
Quick comparison
| Feature | MetricRaven | Umami |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Founders who want revenue per channel with first-visit attribution | Teams who want open-source web and product analytics, free to self-host |
| Free option | 14-day trial, no card | Free Hobby plan (100k events); 14-day trial on paid plans |
| Entry paid price | $9/month for 10k events | $20/month for 1M events (Pro) |

| Session replay and heatmaps | No | Business plan |
| Self-hosting | No | Yes, MIT licence |
Pricing compared
Umami Cloud prices by events, and every pageview, custom event and stored event property counts. Hobby is free for 100k events a month, one website and 6 months of data. Pro is $20 a month for 1M events (then $0.00003 per event), 20 websites, 10 team members and 2 years of data. Business is $200 a month for 10M events, unlimited websites and members, 5 years of data, session replay and heatmaps. Self-hosting is free.
MetricRaven Starter is $9 a month for 10k events, $19 for 100k and $69 for 1M; Growth is $19, $39 and $139. Payments are imported on both plans (pricing). At high volume Umami is clearly cheaper, so the case for MetricRaven is the revenue reporting, not the price.
Choose MetricRaven if
- You want each payment credited to the visit that first brought the customer, not the most recent one (attribute Stripe revenue).
- You sell through RevenueCat or Shopify, which Umami's payment integrations don't list.
- You want to see which AI crawlers read your pages, alongside human visits (AI crawlers).
- You want GitHub commits on your traffic chart and estimated revenue per Search Console keyword.
Choose Umami if
- You want open-source software you can self-host for free.
- You have a lot of traffic and a tight budget: 1M events on Pro costs $20.
- You want session replay, heatmaps and error tracking in the same tool.
- You want a free plan for side projects and are happy to send revenue events yourself.
What Umami does well
- Open source, truly. MIT-licensed, self-hosted on Node.js and PostgreSQL, with a large community on GitHub.
- Breadth. Funnels, retention, journeys, goals, attribution, UTM reports and revenue are on every cloud plan, including the free one.
- Price at scale. 1M events for $20 a month and 10M for $200 is hard to beat.
- Privacy. No cookies, no personal data, and a choice of US or EU data region on Umami Cloud.
- Product extras: session replay, heatmaps, error tracking, custom boards, annotations and an official read-only MCP server.
What MetricRaven does well
- More payment providers. Read-only connections to Stripe, Lemon Squeezy, Paddle, Polar, RevenueCat, Dodo Payments, Shopify and WooCommerce, plus a payments API.
- First-visit attribution. Revenue is credited to the visit that first brought the customer, so the channel that found them gets the credit. Channels, referrers, campaigns, pages and countries can all be sorted by revenue.
- AI crawler reports. Requests from GPTBot, ClaudeBot and others, by page, plus robots.txt and llms.txt fetches. They don't count toward your events.
- Developer tools: an MCP server, a CLI, a REST API and GitHub commit markers on the chart.
How to try MetricRaven next to Umami

- Pass the visitor ID into your checkout so new payments are attributed (Stripe Checkout).
- After a week, compare revenue per channel in both tools and see which attribution matches what you know about your customers.

Verdict
Umami is a strong, honest product. If you want open source, self-hosting, product analytics features or the lowest price per event, it is the better choice, and its free plan is great for side projects.
If revenue is the number you care about, MetricRaven is more focused: first-visit attribution, more payment providers, revenue on Search Console keywords and AI crawler reports. Run both for a week and compare which one explains your sales.
Frequently asked questions
Is MetricRaven cheaper than Umami?
Usually not. Umami has a free plan for 100k events and charges $20 a month for 1M events on Pro, while MetricRaven starts at $9 a month for 10k events and costs $69 for 1M. MetricRaven includes payment connections on every plan; Umami includes them from Pro.
How is revenue attribution different?
Umami links a payment to the visitor's most recent visit in the 90 days before it, once you pass a distinct ID to your payment provider. MetricRaven credits each payment to the visit that first brought the customer, so the channel that found them gets the credit.
Can I self-host MetricRaven like Umami?
No. MetricRaven is a hosted service only. If self-hosting is a requirement, Umami is the better fit: it is MIT-licensed and runs on Node.js with a PostgreSQL database.
