Quickstart

On this page

Install the tracker first. Revenue and search data are optional extras; you don't need them to see visitors.

  1. Create your site

Sign in with Google or a six-digit email code. Choose Add a site and enter a name and domain, such as example.com.

  2. Save the secret key

The secret key is shown once, right after you create the site. Store it in your backend's secret manager as METRICRAVEN_SECRET_KEY. It must never go in browser code.

  3. Add the script to your website

Copy the script from your site's Settings → Install card and paste it into your website's shared layout. The public site ID inside it is safe to publish. Follow Install & verify or pick your platform under Installation guides.

  4. Open your website and check Traffic

Visit your website in a normal browser, then open the site's Traffic tab. You should see a pageview and, while the page is open, a live visitor.

Verify it works

Your first pageview confirms the public tracker works. Connecting a payment or search provider is a separate step.

Details

  • The live window covers the last five minutes and refreshes every 15 seconds, independently of report dates and filters.
  • Locations are approximate IP locations rounded to 0.1°. Visitors without coordinates still count toward the total.
  • On busier sites, map and list filters use the 500 most recently active visitors; the total includes everyone.
  • Recent goals and payments show site-wide activity from the last 30 minutes.
  • Live reports are private and unavailable in public share and embed links.
