Find what makes money

Find your best marketing channel

Rank channels by money in the bank, not by traffic.

Updated · 1 min read

You post on social, write for search, run a few ads and send a newsletter. Each one brings visitors, but only some of them bring customers. Your best channel is the one that pays, and it is often not the one with the biggest traffic line.

Why this matters

Time is the scarcest thing you have. If you can see that search sends twice the visitors of your newsletter but a tenth of the revenue, you know where the next hour should go. Ranking by revenue also shows when a channel you love quietly stopped working.

Why most analytics tools can't tell you

Most analytics tools stop at visitors and bounce rate, because they never see the payment. Your payment provider sees the payment but not the channel. So you end up comparing channels by traffic, which rewards whatever is loudest.

How MetricRaven does it

MetricRaven groups every visitor's first pageview into one channel: Direct, Organic Search, Social, Paid, Email, Referral, Campaign, AI or Affiliate. Payments from a connected provider are credited to the visit that first brought the customer, so the Acquisition card can rank channels by revenue next to visitors.

How to do it

  1. Install the tracking script and connect a payment provider such as Stripe.
  2. Pass the visitor ID into checkout, or identify signed-in users, so payments link back to visits.
  3. Open Traffic → Acquisition → Channel and switch the sort button from visitors to revenue.
  4. Click a channel to filter the dashboard and read its conversion rate and revenue per visitor in the overview.
  5. Pick a period of at least a month, so one lucky week doesn't decide your plan.

Channel rules are listed in Campaign & referral links. Tag the links you control with UTM parameters so they land in the right channel instead of Direct.
