Measure how a launch performed

See what a launch brought, during the spike and after it.

Updated · 1 min read

Launch day is loud: Product Hunt, Hacker News, X, newsletters. The upvotes come fast, but the question that matters comes later. How many visitors did the launch bring, how many paid, and did anything stick once the noise faded?

Why this matters

A launch costs weeks of preparation. Knowing which sources drove the spike, what it earned, and whether traffic settled higher than before tells you whether to launch the same way next time, and which communities are worth showing up in again.

Why most analytics tools can't tell you

Most dashboards show a spike and a list of referrers for the whole period. They don't mark what you did on which day, they don't tell you a spike is happening, and they rarely put revenue next to the sources that caused it.

How MetricRaven does it

MetricRaven lets your team add chart notes such as “Launched on Product Hunt” to the traffic chart. Days when one source sends far more visitors than usual get that source's icon on the chart, and spike alerts email you while it is happening, with the top sources and pages. The previous period appears as a dashed line, so you can compare.

How to do it

  1. Before launch, connect a payment provider and tag your launch links (Campaign & referral links).
  2. On the day, add a note from the chart's Chart notes button, or through the API.
  3. Keep traffic spike alerts on to get an email when the spike starts.
  4. A week later, open Traffic, pick a period that covers before and after, and read visitors, revenue and conversion rate.
  5. Sort Acquisition → Referrer by revenue to see which launch sources paid.

Add a funnel from your launch page to payment (Goals & funnels) to see where launch visitors drop out.
