Measure revenue from paid ads

Follow every ad click to the payment it led to, or didn't.

Updated · 2 min read

Ad platforms are happy to report clicks and their own idea of conversions. What you want to know is simpler: did the people who clicked pay you, and how much? That number has to come from your own site and your own payments.

Why this matters

Paid ads are the one channel where every visitor has a price. If a campaign brings $3 of revenue per visitor and each click costs $1.50, it works. If it brings $0.50, you are paying to lose money. Revenue per campaign tells you which ads to scale and which to switch off.

Why most analytics tools can't tell you

Ad platforms count conversions with their own pixels, attribution windows and modelling, and each one takes credit for the same sale. Analytics tools see the click but not the payment. Neither gives you revenue from your own records, per campaign.

How MetricRaven does it

MetricRaven puts visits with utm_medium such as cpc, ppc, paid, display or cpm, or an ad click ID such as gclid or fbclid, into the Paid channel. Each UTM value gets visitors and revenue, credited to the customer's first tracked visit. With Meta Ads connected, MetricRaven imports daily spend and shows ROAS and cost per customer in Revenue → Paid acquisition; for other ad networks, return on ad spend is revenue divided by the spend shown in your ad account.

How to do it

  1. Connect a payment provider so revenue is attributed to visits (Connect Stripe).
  2. Add UTM tags to every ad's final URL, for example utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=spring-sale (Campaign & referral links).
  3. Open Traffic → Acquisition → Channel and click Paid to filter the dashboard.
  4. Open the Campaign tab and pick utm_campaign to compare campaigns by revenue.
  5. For Meta and Google campaigns, open Revenue → Paid acquisition for spend, ROAS and cost per customer (Meta Ads, Google Ads). For other networks, divide each campaign's revenue by its spend from the ad platform for the same dates.

Choose Ad click IDs (gclid, fbclid…) in the Campaign tab to catch ad visits that arrived without UTM tags.
