Chart notes

On this page

A chart note is a short, dated line such as “Launched on Product Hunt”. It sits on the traffic chart at its date, so anyone looking at a spike or a dip can see what happened that day.

Add a note

  1. Open chart notes

In Traffic, click the note button in the chart toolbar of Traffic overview. Its badge shows how many notes fall in the selected period.

  2. Pick the date and write the note

The date starts at today in your reporting timezone; pick an earlier day for something that already happened. Notes are one line of up to 280 characters.

  3. Click Add note

The note appears on the chart at once, for everyone on the team.

Read notes on the chart

A day with notes gets a small marker above the chart line, showing the number of notes when there is more than one. Hover the day to see its notes in the tooltip, under the day's numbers. On weekly or monthly charts, a marker collects every note in that week or month.

Edit or delete a note

Open chart notes: every note in the period is listed, newest first. Click Edit to change its date or text, then Save note (or Cancel). Delete removes it straight away.

From the API

Scripts and deploy pipelines can add notes too, for example one per release. See Chart notes in the Site API. To see code changes on the chart without writing notes, connect GitHub.
